Chicago Crafters Fight Global Warming through Crochet!
Erika And Monika Simmons, NBC5 Street Team (video) The Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef is a community crochet project spearheaded by twin sisters Margaret and Christine Wertheim of the Institute for Figuring. This project now engages women the world over to crochet a hand made reef in an effort to bring attention to the negative effects of Global Warming and Pollutants on the Great Barrier Reef - the worlds largest living organism, that stretches along the coast of Australia.
This is actually a crocheted Coral Reef!!!

Well, you certainly don't have to know how to crochet to help. Education in key to understanding how we can adjust our everyday recycling and disposal habits so that we don't remain part of the problem. Come out to visit the Beautiful Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef Exhibit at the Chicago Cultural Center, created by over 100 crafty Chicagoans!

Learn to make your own crocheted coral reef. Members of the Windy City Knitting Guild will lead informal workshops to teach the skills needed to create your own woolly reef! Workshops are co-sponsored by the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum.
