Chicago Events Jan 17 - 20
The Local Tourist, NBC5 Street TeamBiking and boating may seem like warm weather activities, but not in Chicago! Friday is Winter Bike to Work Day, when bikers convene at Daley Plaza for breakfast and tips on cold weather cycling. At McCormick Place this weekend is the Chicago Boat, RV, and Outdoors Show, showcasing all things outdoors. Because it actually is winter, Saturday is the Third Annual Polar Adventure at Northerly Island. Explore the island in snowshoes (if there's snow, of course), get up close to Siberian Huskies, and witness the art of ice sculpture.
If you prefer art that's more permanent, join the Chicago History Museum on their Gallery Crawl 101 Trolley Tour. For an interactive experience try the 'Art Attack' Scavenger Hunt at the Art Institute. The Union League Club, a private club that has its own gallery, is honoring its newest "Distinguished Artists" on Friday with its Beaux-Arts Celebration.
How are those resolutions coming along? Get some help at Le Passage's Resolutions 2008. Go with friends and save money - get one ticket for $20, or for the best deal get 4 for $50. The evening includes cocktails, appetizers, and expert advice.
A couple of other events I'd like to highlight: the Devil In The White City Bus Tour, which visits spots from the bestselling book, was so popular last year they're doing it again. The other event is Classical Idol - An Interactive Classical Music Experience for Young Audiences. This quick, interactive concert teaches children about classical music through a "battle" of the instruments.
What a great and varied weekend we have in front of us. Have fun!
